Welcome to our new website!
Grand Traverse Area Literacy Council (GTALC) is a nonprofit,
volunteer-based organization dedicated to improving literacy throughout the
Grand Traverse region. Since 1970 GTALC has been training volunteer tutors and
connecting them with aspiring learners in a variety of literacy programs. We
offer tutoring services for adults, free of charge.
For over forty years GTALC volunteers have provided services to hundreds of
learners seeking to improve their literacy skills. As a result, many of these
individuals are more fully able to experience the numerous opportunities our
community offers. From entering and maintaining employment to achieving
citizenship and voting for the first time, each person’s goals may be different,
but their success through literacy is the same.
GTALC collaborates and partners with other community organizations such as,
- Probate Court Volunteer Services (Learning Partners),
- Michigan Works! (Learning Lab)
- Traverse Area District Library
- GTALC is a member of ProLiteracy
- Northern Michigan Association of Literacy Councils,
- Grand Traverse Community Collaborative and Northern Michigan Association of
Volunteer Administrators
